Continuity can be a sticky thing with DC...

For many years it was one basic universe... then DC updated its characters in the 1960s, and then decided that they were two seperate universes. This was defined in Flash #123 where the Golden Age and Silver Age Flashes meet.

At that point it was defined further that the two Earths were separated by vibratory patterns. Things were a bit different between the two Earths, with major points of history being the same.

The cut off between Golden Age(Earth-Two) and Silver Age(Earth-One) comic books is generally defined as happening around 1954.

Each Earth then went on from that point with each character going their own way. The Earth-Two Batman was killed, The Earth-Two Wonder Woman married Steve Trevor and had Lyta, and Infinity Inc. was formed to carry on the Justice Society's lineage.

Then the Crisis on Infinite Earths happened. The universes were destroyed one by one(by this time there were many different universes populated with all the different characters that DC bought out such as the Original Captain Marvel who resided on Earth-S). The final Earths left were Earth-One and Earth-Two. These were combined to create one final Earth with a final timeline.

Because of this, there was no Golden Age Wonder Woman, Superman, or Batman. There were many other changes as well, changing the Fury from Infinity Inc. from being the Golden Age Wonder Woman's daughter, to being the adoptive daughter of Wonder Woman replacement Miss America.

Zero Hour was used to further 'fix' the DC Universe to tighten it up. This killed off members of the Justice Society and depowered the rest except for Starman(who felt he was too old to go on) and the Golden Age Green Lantern who became Sentinel.

Finally, John Byrne decided that there should have been a Golden Age Wonder Woman in the Justice Society, so while Diana became the Goddess of Truth, her mother Hippolyta went into the past and became the Golden Age Wonder Woman.
